Celebrating all Queen Bees on Mother’s Day

Queen Bee

In case you’ve lost track of time, like many of us do these days, Mother’s Day is coming up THIS WEEKEND. We love Mother’s Day because with all that our mothers do – carpool, PTA, laundry, work, cook amazing meals – and every role they play – nurse, therapist, chauffeur, Superwoman – they deserve to have their very own special day to be celebrated and showered with love. With this in mind, the National Honey Board (NHB) is excited to kick off its annual Honey Saves Hives campaign by shining a light on our real-life “Queen Bees” – our mothers!

Now in its third year, the Honey Saves Hives program has evolved into a year-long campaign with the mission to educate consumers about the important role honey, honey bees and beekeepers play in sustaining a healthy planet and our food ecosystem. As the true stewards of our global food supply, beekeepers and their honey bees are responsible for pollinating an impressive one-third of the foods we eat. However, we can’t forget about the other queen bees, the mothers of the honey bee hives, responsible for breeding all of the honey bees who pollinate some of our favorite fruits, vegetables and seeds. And to help us spread the buzz, the NHB is excited to bring along some new Bee-FFs.

This spring, the NHB is excited to announce that it is partnering with Lifestyle & Parenting Expert, wife and mama Brandi Milloy and dad, husband and baker/meal planner Joshua Snyder to inspire consumers to celebrate mom this Mother’s Day with the magic of honey. With Brandi and Josh’s help, we’re showing all Queen Bees some appreciation this Mother’s Day by incorporating honey and/or other pollinator foods into our celebrations! Whether baking up a sweet treat with honey, adding it to a breakfast in bread spread, or gifting the foodie mom in your life a special honey varietal (there are over 3,000!), there are so many ways to support honey bees in your Mother’s Day celebrations. Need inspiration? Try making Brandi’s No-Bake Chewy Bars or Josh’s Mini Honey Cheesecakes to share with your Queen Bees! You can also join the party over on the NHB’s Instagram.

Now, if you’re panicking about getting mom the perfect gift, we’ve got just what you need. Nothing says “I love you” quite like making something special with mom in mind, whether that’s a hand-printed card, homemade jewelry or a delicious meal. We’ve got eight honey recipes that prove that with just a few ingredients, a little time and honey, you can make mom feel like the queen bee she is!

Thinking about treating mom to the traditional Mother’s Day brunch? Why not host it at your house this year and enjoy a delicious honey breakfast on the patio. Or perhaps a nice dinner is more your thing. As one of the few ingredients that span the entire menu, honey can easily be incorporated into every dish on the table. From salad dressing to marinades on meats, honey’s ability to balance and enhance flavors makes it an ideal addition to your menu.

And don’t forget to toast mom at the end of the day! What better way to celebrate than with our Queen Bee Royale? For everything she’s done and will continue to do, we raise a toast - Here’s to you, Mom!

How does your family celebrate mom? We’d love to hear about it! Let us know in the comments below.
